Black Belt Oath

I, _____________________, accept with honor and privilege the Black Belt in Martial Arts, and do hereby swear to uphold the standards of honesty, integrity, courtesy, high moral code, and indomitable spirit.

I sincerely pledge to honor my instructor and school, with loyalty and support, and to value and carry on the Martial Arts Tradition with respect and dignity.

I further pledge, with humility and gratitude, to continue my mental, physical and spiritual growth to the highest level, to lead by example, and to share what I have learned with others. 

           I, _______________________________ have taken the Black Belt Oath and have earned a ______ Degree Black Belt in the Art of Isshin-Ryu Karate-do, under Instructor Master Donald Bohan, 9th Degree Black Belt and in accordance with the guidelines, rules and regulations established by the American Okinawan Karate Association.

NOTE:  In the early 1990s Master Bohan started to use the Black Belt Oath when any student was promoted to any black belt rank.  He got this document from Master Willie Adams (Detroit).   It's my understanding that Master Adams uses the same document in his dojo.
