Continuous
Sparring / Kumite:

The rules governing the Continuous Kumite for the
Black Belts is taken from
the Bando Free-Fighting Nationals
I. Continuous
Kumite Rules:
A. General:
1.
All competitors must
have their own complete set of safety equipment to include:
a. Mouth
guard.
b. Head
protector.
c. Soft,
foam-padded safety glove (no leather, boxing or bag gloves - you
will absolutely not be permitted to wear these).
d. Chest
protector for women.
e. Groin
protector for all male competitors.
f. Shin
pads.
g. Soft,
padded-safety kick boots or instep pads.
NOTE* No safety equipment shall have
loose or torn pieces which could injure a competitor. The judgment
of the Center Ring Referee is final.
2. Competitors
shall be required to spar from the middle or long range,
only temporarily entering the close range to deliver their
offensive techniques, and then immediately withdrawing to
the middle or long range.
3. Permitted
target areas are:
a. Head
(light contact is permitted to the head protector only)
b. Torso
(no spine).
c. Outside
of thighs.
4. No
contact is allowed or permitted face targets with light contact
being permitted to the headgear only. Such contact/touches to the
head protector must not, does not cause injury or pain.
5. Bouts
will be two minutes in duration. Time will stop only during
the explanation of a warning or if someone is injured and is at the
discretion of the Center Judge.
6. Continuous
Kumite Bouts are to be decided by the Center Ring Referee and the
four corner judges with the majority voting (overall decision) in
favor of one competitor.
B.
Prohibited Acts:
1. Contact
to the exposed face is not allowed (Contact to the headgear
is allowed). Intentional excessive heavy contact to head
gear and/or face as judged by the Center Ring Referee is
prohibited.
2. Fighting
after a “break” is called by the Center Ring Referee or Judges.
3. Fighting
out of the ring
4. Drawing
blood either with a single blow or cumulative blows.
5. Executing
blind techniques.
6. Striking
the spine.
7. Striking
the inside of the legs.
8. Striking
the knees or below.
9. Striking
an opponent if he/she has dropped a mouthpiece.
10. Unsportsmanlike
conduct including unbecoming actions, profanity, or disrespect
towards the competitors or the officials.
11. Coaching
is permitted as long as it’s done from the spectators seating area
only.
12. Only
competitors and judges are allowed in the competition area. This
is a spectator friendly event and any person in the competition area
other than competitors and judges will be asked to leave the area
immediately.
13. Any
refusal to obey commands of the Center Ring Referee or tournament
officials.
14. Failure
to wear approved safety equipment. Equipment cannot be shared.
15. Any
such violation in the first instance may result in immediate
elimination without warning. Upon the second offense in the same or
subsequent bouts, the offending competitor may be
disqualified from that bout at the discretion of the Center Ring
Referee or as a result of a joint decision among the judges and
Center Ring Referee.
NOTE*** Fouls and warnings are
called and given at the discretion of the Center Ring Referee or
as a result of a joint decision among the judges and the Center Ring
Referee at the discretion of the Center Ring Referee.
All
events with less than 2 contestants may be combined with another
category.
