General Rules Governing The Kata / Weapons and Kumite Computations:

Kata / Weapons:

1.   First three competitors will perform before scoring.

2.   Scoring is based on a 0-10 point system.

3.   With 5 judges; the high and low score will be discarded and the three remaining scores will be added together for the finial score.

4.   In the event of a tie an additional Kata/Form will be performed.  Both competitors will perform at the same time and a show of hands by the judges will break the tie.

Please Note: Black Belts will be required to perform a different Kata / Form when required to break a tie.  In the case of a tie in weapons Black Belt competitors will perform with a different weapon.

Point Sparring / Kumite:

All events with less than 2 contestants may be combined with another category.

1.   Kumite matches will be for two (2) minutes running time.  Time will stop only during the explanation of a warning or if someone is injured and is at the discretion of the Center Judge.

2.   Three (3) point matches for bellow black belt and five (5) point matches for Black Belts.  If a tie exists after two (2) minutes then sudden victory will break the tie, first to score wins.

3.   Safety gear required (all competitors): Foam headgear, safety punch, safety feet, mouth guards, groin cups for males (shin & instep is highly recommended).

4.   Target areas are: Torso (no spine), and 2” halo around the head or light contact to headgear only.  Judges are encouraged to call a 2” halo to reduce the chance of excessive head contact

5.   NO FACE or CHIN CONTACT.  1st warning for contact – a point will be awarded to opponent.  2nd warning for contact results in a disqualification.

6.   NO EXCESSIVE BODY CONTACT. 1st warning for excessive body contact – a point will be awarded to opponent.   2nd warning for excessive body contact results in a disqualification.

7.   Sweeps or allowed to the front leg only, to be immediately followed be a technique.  NO KICKING to a person who is on the ground.  However, competitors will have two (2) seconds to strike with hand techniques.

8.   Out of bounds under one’s own power: any body part that is out of the ring is considered out of bounds.  1st out – a warning will be given.  2nd out – a point is awarded to opponent.

9.   Points may be scored against a person out of bounds.  However, a point will not be awarded if delivered from out of bounds.

10. NO HOLDING.  Competitors may quick-grab, strike and immediately (2 seconds) let go to score a point.  However, holding will not be permitted.

11. NO techniques to the groin area permitted.

12. The majority among the Center Ring Referee and the four judges is needed to call a point for a competitor.  If a judge calls no-see he is eliminated from the call.  (Example: two judges call for red, one judge calls for white, and two judges call no-see – one point goes to red.)

13. Unsportsmanlike conduct including unbecoming actions, profanity, or disrespect towards the competitors or the officials will not be tolerated and will result in the immediate elimination without warning.

14. Coaching is permitted as long as it’s done from the spectators seating area only
