A Tribute to Friend

I met Don Bohan in 1959 at Sensei Shimabuku's dojo and I knew I was going to like him forever. It was a very special time for me, having studied with the likes of him and Jim Advincula, Steve Armstrong, Harold Mitchum and Sherman Harrill.   Over a lot of years, I would meet up with Bohan all over the country at various tournaments. I hate to admit it but I looked forward to the end of the tournaments, just so I could spend time with him and catch up.

When I decided to hold a small tournament for Rick Niemira, Bohan was the first to respond and what a day it was for the Isshinryu community.   I miss the people that were such an influence on my martial arts and my life but I have the memories and many pictures of Don Bohan, Don Nagle, Harold Long, Rick Niemira, Sherman Harrill and others.   I think of Bohan often and love to tell the stories and I'm sure I'll see him again in another place.
