"Did You Know" -

That Rick Niemira was a Judo brown belt of Master Ernie Cates at his Camp Lejune dojo in 1958 when Master Cates and Sensei Don Nagle became partners and Sensei Nagle began teaching Isshin-Ryu Karate-Do (The first Isshin-Ryu Dojo in the United States).   Master Cates allowed four of his brown belt students to switch to the Isshin-Ryu system being taught by Sensei Nagle.  The four brown belts that switched from Judo to Isshin-Ryu were; Rick Niemira, Don Bohan, Ed McGrath, and Jim Chapman.

Sensei Don Nagle in mid 1959 promoted his first Sho-Dan; Rick Niemira.
